Disco de final de The Cranberries junto a Dolores O'Riordan

La banda irlandesa The Cranberries lanzó recientemente la primera canción de su último álbum, exactamente un año después de que la cantante Dolores O'Riordan fuera encontrada ahogada en la bañera de un hotel de Londres.

La agrupación reveló la nueva pista antes del lanzamiento en abril de su octavo y último álbum, 'In the End'. Después de eso, el grupo de rock, conocido por sus éxitos de la era de los 90 como 'Zombie', 'Linger' y 'Dreams', se separará, luego de tres décadas juntos.

Los miembros de la banda, Noel Hogan, Mike Hogan y Fergal Lawler, terminaron el nuevo álbum de 11 canciones con voces de ensayo que O'Riordan completó en diciembre de 2017, según dijeron en Instagram.

A Message from the band about their new album 'In The End' In early 2017, the four of us got together to rehearse for the ‘Something Else’ Tour. During rehearsals, we discussed many times how great it would be to write and work on new material for a new album… And the prospect of writing and working on new material for a new album was very exciting. By December 2017, Dolores had completed and recorded the vocals to final demo stage on the eleven songs which feature on this recording, and we had planned to go into the studio to complete the album in early 2018. After Dolores' devastating and unexpected passing in January 2018, we took some time out and put all plans on hold. As time passed, we began to think about how we might best honour our close friend and bandmate. This was a very painful process. We remembered how Dolores had been so energised by the prospect of making this record and getting back out on the road to play the songs live, and realised that the most meaningful thing to do was to finish the album we had started with her. We felt that this is what she would want. We spoke with Dolores' family and they agreed. It was a very emotional process for us. Knowing that we would never get to play these songs live made it even more difficult. There was also an overwhelming sense of finality knowing that this was the last time that we would be in the same studio together working on a Cranberries album. We would like to take the chance to thank all our families and friends as well as Dolores’ family and friends, and all those work worked with the band over the years. And to our fans, who have stood by us for almost thirty years; thank you, without you, none of this would have been possible. It has been an incredible journey. We dedicate this album to our dear friend and bandmate Dolores. She will always be with us in her music. "Recordamos lo entusiasmada que había estado Dolores con la perspectiva de hacer este disco y volver a hacer giras para tocar las canciones en vivo, y nos dimos cuenta de que lo más significativo era terminar el álbum que habíamos empezado con ella", dijo el grupo.

"Fue un proceso muy emotivo para nosotros", dijeron. "Saber que nunca podremos tocar estas canciones en vivo lo hizo aún más difícil".
Pero "sentimos que esto es lo que ella hubiera querido", concluyeron.

El primer sencillo tiene una inconfundible vibra de Cranberries, una pista triste pero conmovedora que presenta a O'Riordan repitiendo la profética letra "ahora todo terminó".

El grupo lanza estas canciones con aprobación de la familia de O'Riordan, quien falleció a los 46 años.

Un forense de Londres dictaminó que ella había muerto por ahogamiento accidental debido a una intoxicación, pero no encontró evidencia de heridas o autolesiones.

"No puedo pensar en una manera más adecuada de conmemorar el primer aniversario de la muerte de Dolores y celebrar su vida que el anunciar al mundo el lanzamiento de su último álbum con la banda", dijo la madre de la cantante, Eileen O'Riordan, en un comunicado.

"No tengo ninguna duda de que ella está feliz ahora y estaría encantada con el anuncio de hoy".
